Caritas Luxembourg proposes to hire for its local office in Bamako (Mali) - International Cooperation Department a Head of Mission (m/f/x)

40 hours/week for permanent contract (commencement date to be agreed)

Mission

The Head of Mission (Mali) of the International Cooperation (CCI) of Caritas Luxembourg, under the direction of the Head of International Cooperation, is responsible for ensuring the proper implementation of humanitarian aid and development cooperation projects for vulnerable people and/or those affected by disasters.

The workplace is Bamako, Mali, with missions within the country and to Niger and Burkina Faso.

Responsibilities and tasks

  1. Monitor CCI cooperation projects in the Sahel (Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger) following up on all steps, procedures, requirements and responsibilities defined by CCI, including submitting proposals and reporting according to donor requirements;

  2. Actively participate in professional exchanges within the office team on strategies/programmes, themes and cross-cutting issues;

  3. Contribute to the development and implementation of the CCI strategy in the Sahel;

  4. Monitor operational and socio-political issues pertinent to CCI’s work in the Sahel;

  5. Ensure the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of the projects, respecting the applicable internal and donor procedures;

  6. Identify, assess and monitor risks, as well as related recommendations, in projects supported by Caritas Luxembourg; implement measures to address, reduce, or contain the risks;

  7. Maintain a continuous, respectful and effective dialogue with partner organisations in the field;

  8. Explore and actively respond to funding and fundraising opportunities with the goal of promoting sustainability and diversifying project financing;

  9. Be the point of reference for the Desk Officer (at HQ) on all matters related to the projects/programmes and provide him/her with all necessary information;

  10. Represent Caritas Luxembourg in national and international meetings related to its work with donors;

Job profile

  • Experience in the the Sahel region
  • Several years of experience in similar missions
  • Perfect command of the French language (C1)
  • Very good knowledge of English (B2/C1)
  • Knowledge of international development
  • Knowledge of German or Luxembourgish is an asset
  • Good knowledge of common IT tools.

Remuneration is based on the collective labour agreement for private employees in the care and social sector, career C5.
